A light for remembering: Europaturm illuminated for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz
• Europaturm shines as Germany's highest memorial candle
• Illumination to commemorate the victims of National Socialism
Frankfurt, January 24, 2025: On January 27, Frankfurt's Europaturm will shine as a light against forgetting. This year's International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp. From 4 p.m. to midnight, the antenna platforms of the tallest building in Hesse will shine in yellow light, symbolizing a memorial candle.
The Europaturm, the highest landmark in the Main metropolis, will be bathed in yellow light from a height of 250 meters on 27 January, sending a widely visible signal against forgetting.
“With this illumination, we are sending a message of humanity and remembrance. The 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz reminds us to always remain vigilant against intolerance and hatred,” emphasizes Bruno Jacobfeuerborn, CEO of DFMG Deutsche Funkturm GmbH.
“This special light reminds us never to forget the horrors of the past and to take responsibility for the present and the future,” explains Ernst Schwarz, initiator of the campaign and Chairman of the Dachverband Frankfurter Gewerbevereine e. V..
As part of the #WeRemember campaign of the World Jewish Congress (WJC), the illuminated Europaturm was already part of a global campaign in 2022. Together with iconic landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House, the German Bundestag, the headquarters of the European Commission in Brussels and the One World Trade Center in New York, the TV tower attracted international attention. Last year, the Europaturm also lit up as part of the campaign. This tradition will continue in 2025 and the Europaturm will join the global commemorative movement.
