Deutsche Funkturm breaks ground on new corporate headquarters in Opladen

  • New building in Leverkusen-Opladen creates space for further growth of Germany’s largest wireless infrastructure provider
  • Modern, sustainable headquarters with DGNB Gold pre-certification, scheduled for completion by the end of 2027

Leverkusen-Opladen, May 13, 2026: Germany’s largest provider of radio infrastructure, the Deutsche Funkturm Group, is moving into a new, modern corporate headquarters in the Neue Bahnstadt district of Leverkusen-Opladen. Starting in late 2027, 300 employees will work in the sustainable building, which has been awarded DGNB Gold pre-certification. Leverkusen’s Mayor Stefan Hebbel laid the cornerstone today together with the company’s management.

Deutsche Funkturm operates approximately 36,200 antenna sites for German mobile networks, broadcasting, and numerous other wireless services. Its portfolio also includes major television towers such as the Colonius and the Rheinturm. With 800 employees and revenue exceeding one billion euros, the company ranks among the leading tower companies in Europe. Deutsche Funkturm was founded in 2002 as a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom.

As early as the summer of 2025, Deutsche Funkturm relocated its headquarters from Münster to Leverkusen-Opladen. The new building is a response to the growing need for space resulting from the company’s positive development. With approximately 1,000 new antenna sites per year, it is implementing one of the largest infrastructure programs in Europe.

Mayor Stefan Hebbel emphasized the project’s importance for urban development. “This new construction project is a clear commitment to our city. With this investment, Deutsche Funkturm is not only creating jobs and stimulating the economy but is also taking responsibility for our community by paying business taxes. Ultimately, this benefits all residents of Leverkusen. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for this trust and look forward to a successful future together.”

“With our new headquarters, we are laying the physical foundation for our continued growth and strengthening our long-term presence in Leverkusen. The engine driving Germany’s digital infrastructure is located in the Rhineland,” adds Bruno Jacobfeuerborn, Managing Director of Deutsche Funkturm.

Sven Heyden, Managing Director of W42 GmbH, adds: “We are very pleased to have secured Deutsche Funkturm as a tenant for our new building, which will meet the highest standards of sustainability. The DGNB Gold certification is a matter close to our hearts because it underscores our vision of ecologically efficient, future-proof real estate.”

The “W42 Office Building” is being constructed in the Neue Bahnstadt Opladen district on a plot of approximately 3,200 square meters. The plan is for a modern office building with approximately 4,300 square meters of usable space and workstations for up to 300 employees. The developer is W42 GmbH of Leverkusen, and Rotterdam Dakowski GmbH, also based in Leverkusen, is responsible for the architectural design. Completion is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027.

The new building has already received DGNB Gold pre-certification. This certification ensures that strict sustainability criteria are taken into account across all planning and construction aspects. These include measures such as an extensively greened main roof and a photovoltaic system for self-sufficient energy supply.
